FOOD TELLERS IN TIMES OF CRISIS invites you to an episode of gathering, cooking fiction, debates, and early dinner. We would like to think together about an imaginary of food providers, the future of the food that we are consuming today, the unequal supply and distribution of food, recipes as stories, and the potentiality of food to tell stories. Thinking about the ways food binds us, awakens our senses, and reminds us of the past, our history, and the history of our communities. Food backstories allow us to reclaim what has been lost and formerly conquered.
In this workshop we prepared a few impulses for a sharing circle of word to take place. Shirin and I discussed about corn -a staple food from Colombia- and wheat -a staple food from Iran- relating it to our experiences as citizens from the respective countries. The stories that are contained in this grains, mythical as well as political, were shared.
We offered as well an activity of free association, blind-sighted, to welcome a somatic approach of remembrance through touch, while our hands were in contact with the flour. This expanded the connection and relevance of these foods as a material that brings us together as a community as bodies that share a relation to these.
